Record numbers of divorce and remarriage, along with all kinds of sexual compromise plague the modern Church. Sadly, the rates of divorce and remarriage among Christians practically mirror those outside the family of faith.
In Paul’s letter to the Corinthian believers, he was forced to bring the Lord’s heart on these matters and to place clear parameters around them. What’s equally clear is that many of Paul’s audience had failed to understand the sacred nature of the union that exists between a husband
and wife, while others wanted to marry unbelievers.
In addition, others were asserting a belief that marriage was only for pagans and the ‘less spiritual.’ What’s plain is that the Church of today is not very different from its Corinthian counterpart. For we see many in today’s Church drifting from Paul’s apostolic guidelines related to the topics of marriage, divorce, and remarriage. Many have instead, allowed contemporary wisdom to guide them in such matters, rather than biblical truth.
In this teaching, Jeremy will draw from the wisdom of Scripture to provide a balanced and biblical application of Paul’s theology on these topics to equip you with real answers for the same issues that Christians throughout two millennia of the Church have faced.
Topics covered, include:
Marriage in biblical perspective
Christian perspectives of marriage, divorce, remarriage, and singleness
Divorce among Christians—when it’s allowed—when it’s not
Christian responses to marital separation
Why Paul preferred singleness over marriage
Paul’s advice to widows wanting to marry
