The Church which was a mystery in times past but revealed when the time (kairos) arrived. This was expounded forcefully by Paul, especially in his letter to the Ephesians.

The Church has an origin and a destiny which is unique and different from Israel. It did not exist in the Old Testament, though hinted at in various typologies.

In Matthew 16:18 Jesus proclaimed His intention to build His Church, "And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." The tense used is clearly future at the time Jesus spoke those words. Clearly Israel was in existence at this point, and this can only mean that the Church will be a separate creation of God, a distinct entity.

In the "70 Weeks of Years" prophecy" that God gave to Daniel through the angel Gabriel (Dan.9:21-27) there is a break between the 69th and 70th week, a gap of time in which the Church Age is ushered in. The book of Acts tells us that the Church was born on Pentecost (Acts 2) the same day that Israel was created nearly 1,500 years earlier.

The Church will continue in this present age till she is taken up by the Lord in an event that many Christians are fervently waiting for, "Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works." (Titus 2:13-14).

As a firm believer in the Pre-tribulation rapture of the Church Wan sees many signs for this coming event beginning with Israel's resurrection in 1948. And the signs are building up to an almost crescendo pitch as in the days of Noah (Luke 17:26).

However, beyond the Rapture of the Church what role and destiny does she have? In the book of Revelation, there are several references to a group of "four and twenty elders" with crowns of gold sitting before the Throne of God. Since angels (general term referring to cherubim, seraphim, angels, etc) are not called by that term, could this be a possible reference to the Church?

The Church has a wonderful destiny that boggles the mind. In Paul's words, "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him." (1 Cor.2:9).
