Perhaps more than ever before, the youths of our day are on a quest.
Some are on a quest to seek out the purpose of their being; if there is some higher meaning or a Creator, if He exists at all. Others are in search for an anchor for their souls, something that can centre them amidst the clamour of social media; something real and enduring, as opposed to the fleeting – and oftentimes empty and numbing – pleasures of entertainment or vices.
More than they know or express it, they are in search for someone who would show them the way to truly live, who would show them that there is something more to life than what convention or modern society tells them.
Zi Cong believes deep down, they are on a quest for a cause that is worth devoting their whole life to.
Amid the pressures of modern-day society, its fleeting pleasures and distractions, it is a tall task for our youths to discern the call of God upon their lives – what more, to stay on course. Each of them is uniquely fashioned by God, with their set of giftings and aspirations. They may have different journeys and starting points, but they are equally valued in the sight of the Lord.
Our role as mentors or parents is to guide them along, while encouraging them to lean in to hear from God for themselves. We are to set an example for them to follow, while letting them take from their own role models; and as much as we are to help them avoid the mistakes that we made, we need also allow them to take risks and grow from setbacks and disappointments along the way.
Join us as Zi Cong shares about his journey in discovering God’s call upon his life, the practical lessons he picked up and the struggles he faced along the way to realising his dream of becoming a young author.
Come and be encouraged!
About the Speaker
Zi Cong began his career in a prestigious global bank but decided to lay it all down to pursue his passion of inspiring youths after losing a friend to a car accident - just a year after having another dear friend take his own life. Both of whom were only 25 at the time of their passing.
He went on to complete the School of Leadership course at Tung Ling Bible School and published his first book, What Heaven Does Not Have 3 months before his 26th birthday in a bid to inspire youths to dream big. Fast forward to 3 years later, he published his second book, A Rose in the Wilderness as a tribute to his dearest grandmother who passed on a couple of years prior.
No stranger to grief, the Lord has now placed him in a company that works with governments to help people with their mental/physical health and employment. Leading a small team of like-minded believers, he now champions mental wellbeing and better nutrition at the workplaces and spends his free time mentoring and giving pro bono career guidance to youths.
