In the pursuit of a credible and vibrant Christian life – we can never bypass our need to work on personal character. This is to recognise that our witness to the world will be defeated if our character doesn’t reflect Christ.
Godly character is not automatically imparted to us – but must be grown under fire and developed through perseverance. Too often the modern Church has made spiritual gifts and leadership influence its priority. But downplaying character growth as of lesser importance than growing in gifting – is to overlook that success in ministry is based on the character that undergirds it.
Without it – we may flourish for a season – only to come crashing down when a weakness we’ve failed to correct overtakes us. Very often it’s the minor flaws we allow to fly under our spiritual radar that undermine our Christian witness.
What makes the issue of growing in character of such importance – is that we can have powerful gifts – but be ultimately disqualified from sharing in Christ’s heavenly riches at the end of our life (Matt. 7:22–23).
In Galatians 5:22–23, the apostle Paul mentions nine godly virtues – as traits of Christian maturity – which he likens to “fruit.” Producing these is a work of the Holy Spirit, but cooperating in His work is our responsibility.
In this teaching, Jeremy will provide important insight and practical keys for growing in spiritual fruit – in readying our lives to be used by God.
Topics covered, include:
The Importance of Character to Life and Ministry
Implications of a Flawed Character
Definitions of the Nine “Fruit of the Spirit”
The Role of the Holy Spirit in Fruit Development
Processes and Steps to Growing Spiritual Fruit
