For centuries mental illnesses have been attributed to demons. With advancement in medical research, many psychiatric conditions have been recognised as disorders of the brain, thus dispelling the idea that these illnesses have a demonic causation. Scientists have demonstrated brain changes in some of these conditions.
While Western societies and secular psychiatry, which arose from the West, do not recognise the existence of demonic spirits, nevertheless our enemies are real, and their aim to kill, steal, and destroy persist to this day (John 10:10).
Demonic influences are prevalent in certain mental conditions. We will provide examples to support this idea.
By demonstrating the role of the demonic in the mentally ill, we seem to be coming a full circle to the ancient notion that all mental illnesses are caused by demons. Are they all?
Which of these conditions have a strong biological basis? Which don’t?
What are the overlaps between the spiritual and the demonic in these psychiatric disorders? How do we tell the difference?
Will we come full circle?
There are twists and turns as the truth is not that simple. Come and have your doubts resolved, and your questions answered.
