We often limit the purpose of the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ, on Earth as merely to redeem mankind. While this is true, we need to understand the broader context, that Jesus' incarnation on earth was part of God's strategic plan to destroy Satan.
Satan had usurped Adam's dominion on earth after the Fall. Satan (the first rebel against God) now rules the world and leads man into rebellion against God. However, the apostle John informs us the specific reason for Jesus' incarnation on earth: "For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil." (1John 3:8)
In this talk I will review God's purpose in the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus as the triumph of God against Satan. Jesus' crucifixion on the Cross at Calvary and death was a victory over Satan. It was the plan by which God abolished death which came upon mankind and all creatures on earth after Adam's sin. Death had gripped Adam and all his descendants with the sad refrain repeating ad nauseam: "...and he died."
But the sinless God-Man, Jesus the Lord, took on sin and death and defeated both by His death and resurrection. Death had no hold over Jesus as He was sinless. Not only that, Jesus also broke the hold of sin and death over mankind by offering the fruit of His victory to all who will believe in Him, "O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?" (1Cor.15:55) Believers in Jesus, collectively known as the Church would carry the fight to Satan. As Jesus said, "...on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it." (Matt.16:18)
You will be surprised at the reason Jesus took His disciples on a trek up Mt. Hermon, transfigure, then tell His disciples of His pending death. After witnessing this wonderful and amazing glory of Jesus on Mt. Hermon the words of Jesus absolutely made no sense to the disciples. Unless there was a significance, a special meaning to it all which the disciples had not grasped. This talk will take us too on an amazing discovery which is not often understood in the Church today.
