In Genesis 1:26-27, Moses writes:
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
What does it mean to be created IN THE IMAGE OF GOD?
Some say we look physically like God while others say our intelligence, rationality, or capacity for emotional connection resembles God. Bible scholars debate about this idea historically.
Why does this topic matter?
It is significant because our human worth, dignity, and rights are intrinsically tied to this idea. Humans are valuable because we bear God's image.
Do sinful non-Christians also bear the image of God?
How about cognitively impaired individuals?
What about unborn babies?
As we explore this biblical issue, it helps us appreciate the glory, design, and unique status God has bestowed upon all humans so that we view each person in the highest regard.
