There  are many ardent believers who claim that the answer to the above question is “no”.

This is tantamount to saying that if I have faith, I will never need to see a doctor. If I have faith, I will never get sick, or even if I do, I can pray for healing, without needing medical treatment. Such views are rejected by most churches.

Fortunately, most Christians would take medications for physical conditions. Why not take medications for psychiatric conditions?

Taking medication is not a sign of weak faith. Not taking medication is not a sign of strong faith either. There are many myths surrounding mental illness. With advances in research, most  mental illnesses are no longer attributable to demons.  Many psychiatric problems have been found to have a biological causation, hence requiring biological methods of treatment.

There are many myths surrounding psychiatric illnesses and their treatments. Such myths hinder help seeking. In this talk common myths will be examined and explained.
While acknowledging that there are also spiritual elements present, we hope to present a balanced view to the question of whether we should or should not accept psychiatric help while putting our trust  in God.
