"To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one without faith, no explanation is possible.” St. Thomas Aquina
While this aphorism sounds true in its simplicity it contradicts what the Bible teaches. Our faith as a Christian cannot be just a leap of faith (or a leap in the dark). Christianity is a reasoned and reasonable faith. The Bible admonished us: "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason for
the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear." (1 Pet.3:15)We see two aspects here: the subjective, our personal relationship with God; and the objective, being able and ready to give a coherent answer for our faith.
Many Christians when asked the basis for their faith will give subjective personal testimonies. This is an absolutely important part of our faith because of our personal relationship with God. After all we call Him Father. Even the apostle Paul often recounts his life before his encounter
with Jesus on the road to Damascus. However, this alone cannot, by any means, be defined as fulfilling the objective aspect of 1 Pet.1:15. The sceptics and atheists will scoff at personal testimonies as the mere offerings of a weak mind. We must be able to present objective proofs for our faith which is soundly grounded in history & archaeology, logic, biblical prophecy, hidden gems, nuggets of truth and of course Israel.
From Genesis to Revelation we must hone our ability to present the gospel coherently even to the naysayers. This is an essential part of our evangelistic presentation of Jesus, and the Bible.
The Bible stands alone in telling us God's story of this world from Creation (Genesis) to Consummation (Revelation). It does so through an accurate recording of historical accounts (supported by archaeology) while pointing to present day and future events. The Bible is "the only book that hangs it entire credibility on its ability to write history in advance, without error." (Chuck Missler, 1934-2018).
This talk will not only strengthen your Christian walk but help you to "earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints." (Jude 1:3)
