What is Autism Spectrum Disorder?
Autism, autistic, or Asperger's?
What causes it?
Can children outgrow the condition?
These are some of the many questions we naturally have when we hear the word autism or the longer term, Autism Spectrum Disorder, which is often shortened to ASD. In recent years, more and more TV shows and movies feature an autistic character, changing the public's perception of autism. How accurate is the portrayal? How much of it applies to all autistic people?
In this talk, we will attempt to understand what it means for a person to be diagnosed with ASD and how the condition affects their work, life, and relationships. Through this session, we hope to dispel some common myths about the condition and think about ways we can be a supportive parent, teacher, and friend to them.
