Miracles are a common feature of Jesus' ministry in the first three Gospels. Why, then, does John record only seven 'signs', as he calls them, in his Gospel?

These 'deeds of power' are closely associated with Jesus' message about the presence of the kingdom of God, and John tells us he selected these seven in order to promote faith in his readers: 'that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name'.
